Why Not Explore Switzerland on Bike

Why Not Explore Switzerland on Bike

Can you imagine Switzerland has over 12,000 kilometres of signposted cycling paths and 209,346 cycle routes to explore?

The roads in Switzerland are in excellent condition with little or no traffic, and it is a paradise for cyclists. Different cycling paths meet the demands of touring bike groups, leisure cyclists and e-bikers. They cut through diverse picture-perfect nature landscapes, mountainous terrain, lakeside, villages, and cities.

Riding a bike is healthy, fun and a low-impact exercise for all ages. By incorporating cycling in a tour is also a healthier way to sight-see as it burns nothing but calories. Switzerland has it all set up for you to have an enjoyable and memorable cycling experience!

For the Pro or Semi-Pro Cycling Community

We have partnered with the organisers of the Tour de Suisse to develop a mini "Tour de Swiss" Bike Tour product catering to cyclists serious about participating in a more professional cycling excursion. This type of Bike Tour uses Road Race Bikes, and bike rental is available for participants who need one. Here are some key features of the bike tour:

  1. Two bike guides/coaches will be attached to each group; one leader and one sweeper. The Lead Coach will be a well-known ex-Swiss Bike Pro, e.g. Martin Elmiger.
  2.  A mechanical, medical, and backup support vehicle will accompany the group during the journey.
  3.  Bike fitting and repair are available upon arrival and during the journey.
  4.  Strava/Garmin provides all routes for participants.
  5.  All participants will receive a set of bike jerseys.
  6.  The winner will receive a certificate and medal at the end of the Mini Tour de Suisse.

For the Leisure Bike Enthusiasts

There are also leisure cycling excursion programmes for those who want to relax and see Switzerland while cycling on scenic and well-established bike paths. Bike speciality operators will provide a selection of bikes for rental and recommend suitable routes for cyclists. Cycling, human-powered mobility, supports the objectives of Swisstainability by reducing the carbon footprint of the entire Switzerland tour.

Bike Excursion Routes

Switzerland has many proven and defined bike routes for more adventurous and strenuous mountain biking and endurance road cycling excursions. There are also gentle routes for casual cyclists who prefer more relaxing and moderate cycling paths with views of animal farms, nature parks and villages. Whether you are an avid cycling enthusiast or a casual cyclist with a family, you will enjoy this unique experience of cycling in the stunning outdoors of Switzerland; unwind and immerse in the beauty of nature! Here are six cycling routes Kuoni Tumlare is recommending in its Swisstainable Bike Tour itinerary for the Pro Cycling Community as a start:

1. Bike Excursion from Thun-Sigriswil-Bern (64 km)

2. Bike Excursion from Chateau Gruyeres – Montreux (65 km)

3. Bike Excursion from Col de Pillon-Lauenensee-Col de Mosses (100 km)
